How Much Did You Care About 3D Before Avatar?

While 3D TV technology is amazing, I can safely admit that I had no general interest in 3D films until I saw Avatar. It’s not that I didn’t like 3D, I just didn’t know much about it or what it was capable of. This got me wondering – what other movies out there could pioneer the 3D universe? Better yet, what are the favorites amongst the 3D lovers themselves?

I did a quick search on the top 3D movies of all time and stumbled across a brilliant list presented by CGSociety and 3D World about which movies exhibited the best 3D effects. I couldn’t help but wonder how amazing these movies would be on a 3D TV. Here were their top 20:

20. Star Wars: Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith (2005)
19. Shrek (2001)
18. Tron (1982)
17. Monsters Inc. (2001)
16. Sin City (2005)
15. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006)
14. Finding Nemo (2003)
13. King Kong (2005)
12. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
11. The Incredibles (2004)
10. The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
9. Final Fantasy the Spirits Within (2001)
8. Transformers (2007)
7. Ratatouille (2007)
6. Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
5. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
4. Toy Story (1995)
3. 300 (2006)
2. Jurassic Park (1993)
1. The Matrix (1999)

How do you think this list would scale in comparison to a list of the top 20 movies to watch on a 3D TV? Probably pretty close, I would say.
